Historic York House in Fredericton, New Brunswick sold to ADI Capital

The City of Fredericton, New Brunswick has sold York House to ADI Capital Inc. for $500,000. Completed in 1893 and originally used as a high school, York House was designed by James C. Dumaresq, architect of the New Brunswick Legislative Building. ADI has agreed to preserve the exterior of the building.

Ottawa to proceed with preliminary Lansdowne Park construction work, short-lists PCL, EllisDon and Pomerleau

Ottawa City Council voted in favour of a plan to go ahead with some work to redevelop Lansdowne Park, the former home of the Ottawa Roughriders Canadian Football League Team. PCL Constructors Inc., EllisDon Corp. and Pomerleau Inc of St-Georges, Quebec, have been shortlisted for construction of the stadium, an underground garage and site servicing. The preliminary work will include relocation of contaminated soil, demolition of the Coliseum Building and utility relocation.

Work continues on Markham, Ontario hospital redevelopment

General contractor PCL Constructors Canada Inc. began the four-storey Markham Stouffville Hospital, north of Toronto, Ontario, in 2010. The owner is Markham Stouffville Hospital and the project was designed by B + H Architects.

Detroit pier demolition begins after court rules

Work got underway almost immediately after a Michigan Court of Appeals ruling upheld the right of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to complete the so-called $230 million Gateway Project for vehicles entering and exiting the United States at the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor and Detroit. Crews from Detroit-based Dan’s Excavating were on site the next day for 24 hours.

Osgoode Hall Law School transformed after renovation at York University in Toronto

A newly transformed Osgoode Hall Law School has officially opened at York University in Toronto following an extensive renovation and expansion of the 43-year-old facility that adds study and administrative space and brings an infusion of natural light to the building. The project was undertaken by a team that included construction manager Bird Construction.

Construction steps up for Emily’s House in Toronto

Donations of various types have been made by construction firms to Emily’s House, a children’s residential hospice being undertaken by the non-profit Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care. Located adjacent to a landscaped park on the grounds of the former Don Jail, the project involves renovation of the 5,200-square-foot, three-storey Governor’s House, which was constructed in 1888.
