Construction to start soon on Mission, British Columbia health centres
Construction is expected to get under way in July on an estimated $27 million project in Mission, British Columbia that includes a complex-care community residential centre as well as a community health centre. The building, about 70 kilometres east of downtown Vancouver, will be constructed almost entirely of wood products and built to LEED Gold standards.

Historic York House in Fredericton, New Brunswick sold to ADI Capital
The City of Fredericton, New Brunswick has sold York House to ADI Capital Inc. for $500,000. Completed in 1893 and originally used as a high school, York House was designed by James C. Dumaresq, architect of the New Brunswick Legislative Building. ADI has agreed to preserve the exterior of the building.

EllisDon to build performing arts centre for Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario
Contractor EllisDon Corp. is poised to start construction in May on an estimated $45-million performing arts centre at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Designed by Snohetta Architects in collaboration with Ottawa’s ema Architects Inc., the 90,400-square-foot Isabel Bader Centre will incorporate the Stella Buck Building a former 19th century brewery.

The Freeman railway station, built in 1906, will be moved from a temporary location beside a fire station in Burlington, Ontario to land provided by chemical manufacturer Ashland Inc.

Borden, Ontario military base to have $4 million of construction work
Over $4 million worth of infrastructure projects were recently announced by the federal government for Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden, west of Barrie, Ontario. Conctracts were awarded to A-Con Construction Ltd. and Solid General Contractors Inc. Monteith Building Group Ltd. will upgrade the ventilation and air conditioning system in the Food Services School.

A newly transformed Osgoode Hall Law School has officially opened at York University in Toronto following an extensive renovation and expansion of the 43-year-old facility that adds study and administrative space and brings an infusion of natural light to the building. The project was undertaken by a team that included construction manager Bird Construction.

Construction steps up for Emily’s House in Toronto
Donations of various types have been made by construction firms to Emily’s House, a children’s residential hospice being undertaken by the non-profit Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care. Located adjacent to a landscaped park on the grounds of the former Don Jail, the project involves renovation of the 5,200-square-foot, three-storey Governor’s House, which was constructed in 1888.
