Ontario Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities opens nominations for apprenticeship awards

TORONTO

The search is on for Ontario employers who are helping build tomorrow’s skilled workforce.

Nominations are now open for the Minister’s Awards for Apprenticeship Training through Ontario’s Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.

The annual awards highlight employers who show leadership in training apprentices and promote careers in the skilled trades. Since 2003, more than 80 employers have been recognized.

The event recognizes 16 employers, from Ontario’s four regions. From these 16, four regional winners are chosen and honoured at an awards ceremony in the spring.

The 2011 awards honoured four employers, including Con’s Electric Company Ltd. from Timmins and George and Asmussen Ltd., a family-owned business from Breslau that trains apprentice brick and stone masons, heavy duty equipment technicians, and truck and coach technicians.
