CARPENTERS ’ DISTRICT COUNCIL OF ONTARIO

Carpenters’ union official Ucal Powell appointed to Order of Ontario

TORONTO

Ucal Powell, Executive Secretary Treasurer of the Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario (CDCO), has been appointed to the Order of Ontario. “Under his leadership, the Carpenters' Union has built a world-class apprenticeship program and has earned a reputation as a giving and compassionate organization,” reads a release from the Province of Ontario.

CDCO represents more than 20,000 workers in skilled trades including carpentry, drywall and resilient flooring.

Powell, of Vaughan, Ontario, was one of 27 named to Ontario’s highest honour. Other appointees include Three-time Toronto Mayor, David Crombie, former Ontario opposition leader John Tory, and popular bilingual children's educator Suzanne "Marie-Soleil" Pinel.

In 2009, the Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario donated $100,000 to the Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund. Executive Secretary Treasurer Ucal Powell, who was appointed to the Order of Ontario in January, 2012, is sixth from left.

Created in 1986, the Order of Ontario recognizes the highest level of individual excellence and achievement in any field.

“The Order of Ontario is the highest provincial honour bestowed on an individual. With it, we recognize the greatest minds, forward-thinkers, humanitarians, activists and pioneers in our province. These people change lives here and the world over,” said David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, in a release. Nominations are made by members of the public. The deadline for nominations is March 16.
