NorthGrid announces Hamilton, Ontario rooftop solar power system starts commercial operation

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO

NorthGrid Solar Inc., an Ontario-based engineering, procurement and construction company, recently announced that its West Village Suites project is the first building in Hamilton to achieve commercial operation under the Ontario Power Authority’s Feed In Tariff program.

The 88 kilowatt (KW) DC rooftop solar system features NorthGrid’s unique elevated truss system (ETS), which provides roof access to the building owner as well as greater module density along with improved performance to the system owner.

The ETS system is best suited for industrial, commercial or institutional buildings with little or no roof deck support for solar energy systems; it also addresses concerns with density, maintenance and thermal losses.

The West Village Suites is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum building.

“We are extremely pleased with the response our ETS solution has received in the Ontario market,” said Carlo Di Gioacchino, President and CEO of NorthGrid Solar Inc. 

“We have also extended our product line to include an in-house ballast system as part of the turn-key EPC solutions NorthGrid is able to offer building owners.”

NorthGrid also recently announced that the Komoka Community Wellness and Recreation Centre, a 307kW DC rooftop solar facility located in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre, has been commissioned and currently awaiting commercial operation under FIT. This project also features NorthGrid’s ETS.

NorthGrid Solar is scheduled to complete additional ETS and ballast mount projects throughout Ontario ranging from 40kW DC up to 700kW DC.
