London, Ontario council receives draft budget, including $72 million in recreation centre construction
Staff with the city of London, Ontario submitted a proposed tax-supported budget to Council this week, which includes $109.8 million on main road rehabilitation and $45.4 million on heavy equipment purchases over ten years.
Council is scheduled to vote on the budget Feb. 21, after a series of meetings, including public participation and council committees.
The proposed 2012 tax-supported capital plan, presented Monday, includes $93.749 million in expenditures for 2012, including $38.501 million on transportation services.
The proposed capital budget for the next 10 years includes $109.8 million on main road rehabilitation, including Wonderland Road, Horton Street and Commissioners Road in 2012.
Other major capital expenditures for 2012-21 include:
• $54.9 million on reconstructing local streets, including replacement of curbs and gutters;
•$45.4 million to replace heavy equipment for the city, including trucks, loaders, packers, street flushers and tractors;
•$38 million on a recreation centre scheduled for completion in 2018;
•$34 million on a recreation centre scheduled for completion in 2014;
•$30.2 million for life-cycle renewal projects for community centres, including pools and arenas;
•$27.4 million on replacement of street lights;
•$21.9 million to widen Southdale Road from Wellington Road to Pond Mills Road, a project scheduled for completion in 2019;
•$20.4 million to widen Bradley Avenue from Dearness Drive to Pond Mills Road, a project scheduled for completion by 2017;
•$14.9 million to widen Hyde Park Road from Oxford Street to the Canadian Pacific Railway track, scheduled for completion in 2014; and
•$12.9 million to widen Hyde Park Road from the CP Rail to Fanshawe Park Road, scheduled for completion in 2015.
