VIDEO: B.C. Construction Association welcomes standardized contract forms
Standardized construction documents are long overdue, says the president of the B.C. Construction Association.
“The need for these kinds of contracts here in British Columbia is huge,” Manley McLachlan said.
McLachlan’s comments come as the Canadian Construction Documents Committee puts the final touches on a suite of standard contract forms to be used for construction management.
CCDC 5A is intended for use when the construction manager acts as an agent of the owner, providing advisory services.
The owner contracts directly with the trade contractors to perform the construction work, using a new companion CCDC 17 document.
CCDC 5B is used when the construction manager provides pre-construction advisory services to the owner and then undertakes actual construction.
The construction manager engages trade contractors as subcontractors and is responsible for their performance.
“We see the documents providing clarity for a number of elements of the process,” McLachlan said.
