KENAIDAN CONTRACTING

Errict and Alex Lavery need their home to be a wheelchair-accessible environment.

Contractors contribute to Care Enough to Act project

HAMILTON

Kenaidan Contracting has broken ground on its latest Care Enough To Act project to help retrofit a home for a young family with two boys battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

The project is called The Lavery Family for the two brothers, Errict, 13, and Alex, 9, Lavery who need a wheelchair-accessible environment in their home. Kenaidan is managing the construction process for the family, including trying to get other companies to support this effort.

DMD is the most common lethal genetic disease of children worldwide. It weakens all the muscles in the body, including the heart, primarily occurs in boys. It is 100 per cent fatal, with a short life expectancy.

KENAIDAN CONTRACTING

Crews begin the rebuilding of the back section of the Lavery family home in Hamilton.

Kenaidan teamed up with Merit OpenShop Contractors Association of Ontario to ask for members’ help to provide a safe and healthy environment for the Lavery Family.

Structured Creations developed the working drawings for this project.

Demolition of the interior of the house started the first week of August and is already completed.

A surprise donation by M.J.R. Contractors Ltd. was given to the family, at the August 6 construction kick-off picnic, with the offer to rebuild the house’s entire back addition.

On August 9, the entire back section was removed by Priestly Demolition Inc. Mould was found in the basement where the parent’s future bedroom is to be. The driveway will be excavated to expose the foundation walls to waterproof and backfill to solve these moisture problems.

Kenaidan expects construction to conclude in mid-September. Visit www.errictandalex.com to learn more about the project.
